Costume designer Meriem Bahri will focus on costumes designed for ballets, operas and plays performed at the court of France, from Louis XIII to Louis XVI. She'll analyze the symbols, the fashions and the influence beyond the French court.

After completing a PhD in science, Ms. Bahri turned to her great passion for costumes and art history when she moved to Chicago. She collaborates regularly with two groups specializing in baroque opera and is a member of the Académie Desprez, a French association dedicated to the performing arts of the 17th and 18th centuries. Be sure to visit her website.

Join us at 1 PM on Monday, March 19, at the Wilmette Public Library, 1242 Wilmette Avenue. Free to members and students, and to non-members and guests attending a program for the first time ($10 thereafter). A tea and social hour in French will follow the presentation.

Please remember to reserve your spot. RSVP at our Meetup site or, if you're not yet a member of Meetup, email programmes@AFnorthshore.org.

What a pleasure to welcome more than 30 participants at our Café Conversation Matin. The group's diversity was exceptional: participants ranged in age from 23 to 91, and hailed from Poland, Belgium, Louisiana, Cameroon, England, Holland, Senegal, Austria and, of course, the U.S.

I'm very proud to belong to a group that is so diversified; it's diversity that makes this country so great and strong. In my opinion, it's an “all-American” group.
—Edward A.
