Les costumes de scène à la cour de France au XVIIième et XVIIIième siècles
Weriem will explore the opulent world of stage costumes at the French royal court, drawing inspiration from the illustrations of renowned artists who worked under Louis XIII, XIV, XV and XVI. She’ll examine the extravagant ballet and opera costumes, their symbolic meanings and the evolving rules that defined their design. The presentation will conclude with a look at contemporary costume designs by Weriem, whose work draws inspiration from the splendor and theatricality of the Baroque era.

En français.

Weriem is a French-Tunisian artist known for her detailed work, evocative of the performing arts. Before focusing on fine art, Weriem designed costumes for live performances. Her work was praised by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Chicago Tribune as "gorgeous and evocative," "spectacular" and a "sumptuous array of period-perfect" costumes. Her costume design credits include the Royal Swedish Opera, the Boston Early Music Festival, Haymarket Opera Company and Opera Lafayette. Although always an artist at heart, Weriem's journey began with a PhD in biology (Université de Lille, France). Her love for detail and precision infuses her imagery, creating works that are rich in emotion and storytelling.

This program will take place at the Wilmette Public Library.
